The falling sky [and the refusal to see]

Suddenly the sky, my favourite part of this landscape, turned grey. Not because of the pollution (maybe a bit more now), but because of the persistent presence of military planes that fly a route to I don’t know where every single day. Several times a day.

In one week, the [envrionmental] sadness that I have been able to mange well for the past years turned into a dam that cannot hold the water anymore. The strict policies against migrants and refugees worldwide, the irresponsible and deadful foreign policy of western countries against native peoples all over the globe, the witches’ hunt against queer and feminists, another pandemic that is around the corner… And all of that motivated by the capitalist stupidity that reflects on neocolonialist and neofascist agendas.

It hurts to see how the greed of that fucked up 1% who are ready to fulfill their existential void with money has led them to articulate so many mechanisms that lead and keep the population to a state of numbness. It is aweful how this discourse is being reproduced by thousands and hundreds of people who are resigned to face reality from a narrow perspective (usually out of fear). One that sees the evil in the ‘Other’, when it is, at times, actually a huge projection of the death and sexual drives they bring inside and refuse to face and deal with.

David Kopenawa warned us. So did Jesus, for that matter. But we still refuse to see. Even if the victims now include those who believe that God and/or the State will protect them. As much as the categories have been forged to protect the private property of a minority — and have justified exploitation, slavery, genocides and ecocides for centuries — they will not last for long.

The misuse and misinterpretation of ancient wisdom to serve the accumulation of ‘wealth’ for the few has destroyed everyone’s health (including their own). And despite the individualist culture that capitalism promotes, people struggle to at least take decent care of themselves.

The ‘Others’ (humans and non-humans) have been paying the price for centuries. This is not the first time that our skyes fall down (for ones more often that for others). But the ‘North’ has no compass to deal with the reality that they created themselves (if they ever had one). And among all the alternatives that they can think of, war and oil are not going to save them.

The sky — and its lover, the earth — are far stronger than anything our humanity is capable of handle. We are dust, despite some dysfunctional egos trying to make us beleive that we are gods.
